The Evolution of Ourgemcodes
ourgemcodes is the little puppy that was once so beautiful and cute. Then as time passed and ourgemcodes grew up; it became a monster that peed on your carpet and destroyed all your pillows. This post is about the history of ourgemcodes and where I plan on moving it into the future.
First, let’s start off with some history. Before OGC existed, I owned ourWorld blogs on blogspot and wordpress. My early ourWorld blogs didn’t do the best. And I doubt anyone remembers them. But you can still see the sites at skyelogic.wordpress.com & ourworldgemhacks.blogspot.com. At this time, I realized I’d never make a decent website by throwing poo together and saying, “masterpiece!” The sites sucked. So I decided to make a change. I decided to buy a domain name.
The first domain name I bought is called ourWorld-Guide.com which is gone now. The domain name expired. Thank God! Because everytime I see the name, “ourWorld-Guide”; I think, “wow, what a stupid name. It has a hyphen in the middle. I’m such an idiot.” Hyphen’s in domain names is the equivalent to taking a name and misspelling it on purpose. I was even dumber back then that what I am now. But despite my stupidity and the hyphen, ourworld-guide did pretty well and got around +5,000 in traffic every week. I wasn’t satisfied with these numbers and wanted to do something even bigger.
Now here’s some advice. When you have something and you want to make it bigger; the best thing to do is ask everyone else to make it bigger for you. This is a little trick we call advertising & marketing. So I went to all the biggest ourWorld bloggers and said, “let’s work together.” That statement alone is like using a thunderstone in pokemon. Ourgemcodes went from being cute little Pikachu to becoming this bastardly thing called Raichu! It was not a pretty sight for me.
Ourgemcodes became so huge that all it did was break everyday. The site was so big my host said, “get the hell off our servers.” No joke. All I remember was going insane with no sleep and no food for months because the site was broken. I couldn’t keep it together. It was like a rubix cube with 69×69 sides. There was no possible way of solving it. But like geniuses do, I somehow managed the impossible. I fixed ourgemcodes. And for a few years; it was really great.
Then life happened. I realized I was super poor. I was in college. I was hungry. And I didn’t even know if I’d have a place to stay or sleep. It was a really bad time for me. And on top of this, I had no friends or family whatsoever. So I decided to leave ourgemcodes and find a place where I could work. I needed stability; even if it meant that I’d have to let ourgemcodes die.
So I left. The worst part of leaving ourgemcodes was knowing this was a time of your life when you spent every dying minute on trying to make successful. And when you reach that point of success; you find out it meant nothing at all to anyone but you and a few others. When I would visit ourgemcodes, the comments where full of haters and trolls. The posts were all boring. The site looked disgusting. I couldn’t even look at the website without gagging. And there were a ton of other things that just sucked. I didn’t feel bad at all for letting ourgemcodes die. The community became toxic and it seemed like no one really cared anyway.
As time passed on and I ventured into app developing and creating websites for clients; I would occasionally sign onto ourWorld and read my messages. I remember reading a message from a girl who said she had cancer. She said ourWorld and ourgemcodes were the only websites she genuinely loved. And even though she had cancer, she would refresh my site just to see a new video or post being made. I broke down and began crying. To know that you contributed to something that truly helped someone means more to me than anything else in the world. ourgemcodes wasn’t just another website. ourgemcodes is a place that only few of us know. And I can’t just let it die without trying to make it something better.
I refuse to believe that it’s too late for anyone or anything. ourgemcodes has a bright future ahead. I know because I’m spending time on making it the best thing ever created for any virtual world game. Since 2010, the site is still up. Let’s see if we can make it to 2020.
