Netflix Originals released Puss in Boots; a “choose-your-adventure” episode for kids
Netflix recreates the art-of-storytelling with “choose-your-adventure” episodes for kids. Similar to that of TellTale games, viewers are given choices that affect how future events of the episode play out, effectively allowing players to craft their own personalized take on the offered story.
“Choose-your-adventure” style stories have proven to be successful. Minecraft: Storymode, for example, has gotten over 1 million downloads on the app alone. The same approach has been remodeled for Netflix.
Kicking off today, Puss in Book: Trapped in an Epic Tale is available to Netflix subscribers globally, while Buddy Thunderstruck: The Maybe Pile is arriving on July 14. These will be followed by Stretch Armstrong: The Breakout, which is scheduled to air next year.
Carla Engelbrecht Fisher published a post on the Netflix official blog, “Content creators have a desire to tell non-linear stories like these, and Netflix provides the freedom to roam, try new things and do their best work.”
The interactive episodes are only supported on smart TVs, some streaming media players, iOS devices, and game consoles. The episodes don’t work through the Netflix website, android, Chromecast, or Apple TV. It has not been announced if compatibility will improve across more devices.
“The intertwining of our engineers in Silicon Valley and the creative minds in Hollywood has opened up this new world of storytelling possibilities on Netflix,” said Carla Fisher.
Interactive storytelling is an official new genre in eBooks, bots, shows, and games.
Now all we need is an e-store/app where we can purchase these kind of stories.
